Difficulty

This is an Easy level pattern. A basic stitch pattern and simple shaping is used to make this tissue cover.

Working with faux fur yarn can be a bit challenging because the stitches are hard to see. Instead of relying on sight, focus on feeling for the stitches with your fingers as you work. Faux fur yarn is forgiving, so slight imperfections won’t show in the finished piece. Be patient with yourself—it’s worth the effort for the adorable, fluffy result!

Finished Measurements

The finished dog is approximately 16 cm (6") wide, 25 cm (10") in length, and 10 cm (2.5") tall.

The shaggy dog tissue box cover will fit a standard rectangular tissue box.

Yarn

You will need the following amount of a jumbo weight (7) yarn:

meters: 50

yards: 55

Sample was made using Big Twist Favorite Faux Fur yarn in the color “golden doodle”. Favorite Faux Fur is a 100% polyester, jumbo weight (7) yarn that contains 34 meters (37 yards) per 198 grams (7 ounces).

While faux fur yarn gives the Shaggy Dog Tissue Box Cover its signature fluffy look, there are plenty of options if you prefer to substitute. Any bulky-weight yarn that works with the pattern’s gauge can be used. For a less shaggy but equally charming texture, try a chenille-style yarn or a soft, chunky acrylic. If you want to add a touch of whimsy without the full fluff, use a standard bulky yarn and brush it lightly after crocheting for a slightly fuzzy effect. Keep in mind that the finished look may vary depending on your choice, so experiment with different textures to find the style that speaks to you!
