Difficulty

This is an EASY level pattern. A simple stitch pattern is used.

Finished Measurements

Finished purse measures 16 cm (6") in width and 10 cm (4") in height.

The purse strap length is customizable.

Yarn

You will need 100 meters (121 yards) of a bulky weight (5) yarn.

Sample was made using Lion Brand Rewind Tape yarn in the color “current situation.” Rewind Tape yarn is a 70% polyester and 30% viscose blend, bulky weight (5) yarn that contains 221 meters (242 yards) per 100 grams (3.5 oz).

For substitutions look for a chunky weight (5) tape yarn or a flat cotton or hemp-look yarn. Choose something sturdy and slightly rustic to keep the purse’s boho, textured style. Here are a few ones I reccomend:

Bernat Suede-ish Yarn

  • Fiber Content: 70% Polyester, 30% Viscose

  • Why It Works: This bulky, suede-like tape yarn has a soft yet sturdy feel, making it a great match for the texture and structure of the Mesa Mini Purse. It holds shape well while keeping that cozy, boho vibe.

  • Price Range: Bargain - typically around $6–$8 per skein, depending on retailer.

Katia Washi Yarn

  • Fiber Content: 70% Polyester, 30% Viscose

  • Why It Works: Katia Washi is a ribbon-style tape yarn with vibrant colors and a lightweight finish, perfect for accessories. Its texture is very similar to Lion Brand Rewind, so it substitutes beautifully without altering the look of the purse.

  • Price Range: Mid-range - usually $6–$10 per ball, depending on color and seller.

Ch 1, rotate the flap so you can work along the raw edge, pick up 23 sc sts to create a clean, even surface for seaming.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming (approximately 2.5 times the length of the purse flap edge).

Place 2 stitch markers to mark 23 stitches along the back of the purse where the flap will be attached. Use a whip stitch to seam the flap to the body of the purse.

Purse Strap

Make a slip knot, place slip knot on hook (same hook size used to make the purse).

Slip stitch into the side stitch of the purse directly before the flap join. 2 loops should now be on your hook.

1. YO, pull through the first loop on the hook.

2. Drop the first loop from the hook (hold it securely so it does not unravel).

3. YO, pull through the remaining loop on the hook.

4. Return the dropped loop to the hook.

Repeat Steps 1–4 until the strap reaches the desired length.

To finish: YO, pull through both loops on the hook. Sl st into the side stitch on the opposite edge of the purse, directly before the flap join and fasten off.
