Yarn

Sample was made using the following amounts of Lion Brand Comfy Cotton yarn (given as XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL):

Meters: 914; 1,005; 1,050; 1,140; 1,400; 1,500; 1,600; 1,870; 1,970

Yards: 1,000; 1,100; 1,150; 1,250; 1,550; 1,650; 1,750; 2,050; 2,150

Comfy Cotton is a DK/sport weight (3) yarn that contains 358 meters (392 yards) per 200 grams (7 oz).

Lion Brand Comfy Cotton Blend yarn was a beloved choice for lightweight garments and accessories, but unfortunately, it has been discontinued. This yarn was known for its soft, breathable texture, made from a 50% cotton, 50% polyester blend, which gave it a perfect balance of durability and drape. It had a lightweight (Category 3) gauge, a gentle heathered effect, and a cozy feel that made it ideal for sweaters, shawls, and summer tops.

Here are some alternatives:

  1. Berroco Remix Light - a cotton-blend yarn with a soft, eco-friendly texture

  2. Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK - has a smooth, 100% cotton option with excellent stitch definition

  3. Premier Cotton Fair - a cotton-acrylic blend with a similar drape and breathability to Lion Brand Comfy Cotton

Seaming

Align the front and back panels with their right sides facing each other. Seam the shoulders together using the mattress stitch. You will be seaming together 9 (13, 17, 19, 23, 27, 31, 33, 37) stitches on both the right and left shoulders.

Lay the seamed panels flat with wrong sides facing up. Place the sleeves wrong sides up in the inset portions along the seamed panels. Use a mattress stitch to attach the sleeves to the panels.

Fold the sweater in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Use a mattress stitch to seam up each side and continue towards the end of each sleeve.

Collar

Flip the sweater inside out so that the right sides are facing out. Using a 3.5 mm crochet hook, join a new strand of yarn anywhere on the back of the neck opening.

Rnd 1 ch 1, sc in each st around. When working into the side of rows, place 1 sc st in the side of each single crochet and half double crochet row, and 3 sc sts in the side of each treble crochet row, sl st to 1st sc

Chain 7 and follow instructions for “Crochet Ribbing”

Crochet Ribbing

1. Chain specified number of stitches.

2. Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook, and in each remaining chain.

3. Slip stitch into the next 2 stitches along the sleeve cuffs, collar, or bottom of sweater.

4. Turn your work so you are working back up the single crochet stitches that were just made. Skip the two slip stitches, then single crochet in the back loops only of each single crochet stitch. Single crochet through both loops of the final single crochet stitch, chain 1, and turn.

5. Working back down the single crochet stitches that were just made, single crochet through both loops of the first stitch, then single crochet in the back loops only of the remaining stitches.

6. repeat steps 3 - 5 until each stitch along the sleeve cuffs, collar, or bottom of the sweater has been slip stitched into.

NOTE: When there is an even number of stitches, you will end up with 1 extra stitch to slip stitch into instead of 2. Slip stitch into this final stitch, turn your work to work back up the previous row of single crochet stitches, skip the 1 slip stitch, back loop only single crochet in each stitch, single crochet through both loops of the final stitch. Fasten off.

Whip stitch the first and the last row together to close, then weave in ends.
